Herbed Goat Cheese Appetizer

Super easy to make and absolutely delicious—layers of creamy goat cheese with fresh herbs, olive oil, and a touch of heat.

Herbed goat cheese appetizer layered with dill, basil, and olive oil in a small jar.

Ingredients

  • 2 (6-ounce) creamy goat cheese disks, such as Coach Farm
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Minced fresh dill
  • Julienned fresh basil leaves
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • High-quality olive oil
  • Bread or crackers, for serving

Directions

  1. Find a small, wide-mouth canning jar or small glass vase (about 3 1/2 inches in diameter by 4 inches high), just large enough to hold the two goat cheeses stacked with a little extra room.
  2. Cut each goat cheese disk horizontally to make 2 rounds from each (dental floss works great).
  3. Place half of the first disk flat in the jar. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then add about 1/2 teaspoon dill, 1 teaspoon basil, a pinch of red pepper flakes, and drizzle with 1/2 tablespoon olive oil.
  4. Top with another disk of cheese and repeat the seasonings and oil. Continue layering remaining cheese rounds with herbs, spices, and oil.
  5. When all disks are stacked and seasoned, drizzle 1 tablespoon olive oil over the top. Cover and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour, or refrigerate up to 24 hours.
  6. Serve at room temperature with bread or crackers.
