Tia’s Merenguitos

A Citron family tradition for decades! These airy meringue cookies, passed down from Tia El, are pure crunchy goodness.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Parchment paper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F. Line cookie sheet with parchment.
  2. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar, adding sugar slowly. Continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  3. Mix in vanilla and vinegar.
  4. Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheet, keeping sizes consistent.
  5. Bake for 45–60 minutes at 275°F. Do not open oven while baking.
  6. Allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
